Our Story

Nepal Craft House was founded in Kathmandu with a simple mission: to connect the incredible artisans of Nepal with buyers around the world who value authentic, handmade products. For too long, Nepali craftspeople have been undervalued — their extraordinary skills producing some of the finest handmade goods on earth, yet receiving only a fraction of the retail value.

We set out to change that equation. By building direct relationships with over 500 artisan workshops, cooperatives, and master craftspeople across Kathmandu Valley, Patan, Bhaktapur, and beyond, we have created a sourcing platform that gives international buyers direct access to Nepal's finest handicrafts — at fair prices that support the artisans who make them.

Today, Nepal Craft House serves boutique retailers, yoga studios, museum shops, fair trade stores, interior designers, and online sellers in over 30 countries. Whether you need a single sample or a container-load of products, we handle everything from production coordination and quality control to export documentation and international shipping.

Artisan First

Every business decision starts with one question: does this benefit our artisans? We pay above-market rates, provide advance payments for materials, and never pressure workshops to cut corners on quality or speed. Artisan welfare is not a marketing story for us — it is the foundation of our business.

Quality Without Compromise

We maintain rigorous three-stage quality control — raw material inspection, in-production checks, and final pre-shipment inspection. Every product that leaves our warehouse meets the quality standards that international buyers expect. If a piece does not meet our standards, it does not ship.

Fair Trade Commitment

Many of our partner cooperatives hold WFTO (World Fair Trade Organization) certification. We provide full supply chain transparency — buyers can trace their products back to the workshop and even the individual artisan who made them. We believe fair trade should be verifiable, not just a label.

Sustainability

Nepali handicrafts are inherently sustainable — handmade from natural materials using traditional processes. Lokta paper comes from bark that regenerates, felt is made from natural wool, and metalwork uses recycled bronze and copper. We actively seek out and promote the most environmentally responsible production methods.

Our Workshop Partnerships

Patan Metalworkers

The Newari bronze casters of Patan (Lalitpur) produce our singing bowls, Buddha statues, and metal crafts. These families have been working bronze for generations, using the same lost-wax casting techniques their ancestors perfected centuries ago.

Women's Felt Cooperatives

Our felt products come from women-led cooperatives in Kathmandu Valley where hundreds of women earn independent incomes through their felting skills. These cooperatives also provide childcare, education support, and healthcare for their members.

Pashmina Weavers

Our pashmina partners work with NPIA-certified fiber sourced from Himalayan Chyangra goats. Weavers in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur handweave each shawl on traditional wooden looms, continuing a craft tradition that dates back to the Mughal era.

Lokta Paper Villages

Lokta paper is produced by village cooperatives in Nepal's hill districts, where communities harvest Daphne bark sustainably from managed forests. The papermaking provides vital income to remote villages with few other economic opportunities.
